Sex Pistols – Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols (1977)

June 8, 2024

People say that the Sex Pistols can’t play, but this thing has always sounded far more put together to me than most punk from this era. On the other hand, you have the nay sayers who suggest that the Sex Pistols are just a pop band with distorted guitars. As is often the case, the reality is somewhere in the middle. Now, I’ve never been a big fan of the hype around these guys, in fact, being from the UK, I find it fucking cringe because I spent far too much of my youth watching washed up “pub every Friday” losers sing along to this shit.

As an album though, Nevermind The Bollocks… is pretty damn good. A few, again, cringe-inducing lines from ol’ boy Johnny aside, this is an incredibly well made, played and put together album. It does start to blur together as one after repeat listens, but otherwise, every so often, it can be appreciated as a great piece of work. It’s cultural and influential importance also cannot be understated, if you’ll forgive the previous comments about the morons I’ve suffered singing along to songs off this for my whole life haha.
