Ishtar – Diabolical Hymns (1998)

Came for the art, stayed for the fragile, frosted tunes. I love it when I find black metal from the 90s that I haven’t heard before. Ishtar has a cold, unforgiving atmosphere and a brittle production on Diabolical Hymns, but these three tracks unfold beautifully over a moderate 25 minute run time. Opening track “Morkrets Furste” dominates the EP but closer “Dismal Paradise” has a lot of promise too. Great stuff.
