Metallica – …And Justice For All (1988)

inb4 dat bass tho. It was a wild choice mixing this thing the way they did, but for better or worse Metallica achieve one of the most immediately recognisable production sounds in the history of metal music. The story goes they were raging from the death of Cliff, and with newbie Jason Newsted, they shat out this super dark, heavy, angry and bleak album. Saint Anger around my neck, right?

This was the first Metallica album I ever heard so I have a soft spot for it. It’s definitely the heaviest album they ever did, and has some of the greatest songs of their career. “One” anyone? Fucking “Blackened”? “To Live Is To Die”? “Dyer’s Eve”? I could go on.
