Profundo Rosso (1975)

Even for a movie in the giallo style, Deep Red (or Profundo Rosso) has a fairly unusual plot. That aside, the production seems stark and eerily sparse, the exact opposite of say, Susperia (except for maybe that bit where the dog goes for the guy’s throat in that wide open city square). Honestly, Profundo Rosso is the detective story of your nightmares, with only the twists and turns your dreamworld can conjure up.

The pacing falls off in the final third but the visuals are striking enough to keep me interested. A classic, no doubt.
