Gorment – The Ending Quest (1994)

Gothic, oddly melodic death metal from Sweden, played in the style of say, Disembowelment meets Vital Remains or some such ridiculous statement. The Ending Quest seems to have that welcoming analogue quality, which is accompanied by that production sound that kinda falls into a wall of hiss (y’know, like how a vinyl record sounds when you reach the tracks pressed closer to the label in the middle). This gives the riffs a wasp-like quality, but also causes the clout of the rhythm section to become somewhat diminished. The drumming in parts, whilst technically excellent, is almost paper thin.

If you like weeping, mournful riffs as much as you do your savage blasts and viscous riffage, I would strongly recommend giving this a listen.
